Xi Jinping’s latest purge of the Chinese military has come as a surprise to many, as some of the most powerful generals in the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) have been targeted. Reports suggest that these powerful generals had come to wield too much influence and pose a threat to the Communist Party’s authority. Additionally, the Chinese military has been said to have harboured corruption among high-ranking officers in positions of power. These senior officials had taken advantage of their privileged positions to divert funds and resources to personal interests. In an effort to maintain control and authority, it appears that Xi Jinping has removed these individuals and reassigned them to other posts.
