In what has been labeled as one of the worst mass shootings in the history of post-Communist Europe, the Czech Republic is mourning the untimely and tragic deaths of 14 people who were killed at the Masaryk University in Brno on Tuesday. Kamila Kuklová, a 21-year-old student, was an avid athlete and volunteer firefighter in her hometown. A member of the local fire brigade, she was praised for her commitment to helping others, as well as her skills in calculating routes for firetrucks in difficult terrain.
Karel Fučík, another victim, was an esteemed university professor and the leader of the Botany Institute at Masaryk University. Despite his advanced age of 58, he was a renowned researcher and served on many boards of experts for the Ministry of Education and other organizations.
Lukáš Verner was a 24-year-old medical student and budding doctor who was dedicated to service and had just completed his internship at a leading brno hospital. A keen soccer player, Lukáš was praised by his friends and family for his sportsmanship and love of the sport.
