That’s a significant figure and clearly indicates a serious public health concern. Dengue fever is a viral disease spread through mosquito bites. Symptoms usually include high fever, severe headache, pain behind the eyes, joint and muscle pain, and rash. Severe forms of dengue can lead to dengue hemorrhagic fever or dengue shock syndrome. To reduce the risk of infection, you should: 1. Avoid areas with high mosquito infestation if possible 2. Use mosquito repellents 3. Wear long-sleeved clothing and long trousers, especially during the day when the mosquitoes that transmit the disease are more active 4. Be sure to have good screening on windows and doors to keep mosquitoes out. Prevention strategies also include destroying the mosquitoes’ breeding sites, such as containers where rain water can accumulate. If you think you have dengue symptoms, you should seek medical attention immediately. Meanwhile, rest, drink plenty of fluids, and avoid NSAIDs like ibuprofen, as they can increase the risk of bleeding. Always remember, avoiding mosquito bites is the most effective way to prevent dengue.
